Times have changed since the 1950’s and 60’s heyday of the Welcome Wagon, when new residents were greeted to their new homes with flowers, information and coupons. The pace of life has increased. People are much more transient – the Southlake community experienced a 12 percent resident turnover this past year alone. There’s greater emphasis on work and obligation, leaving people less time to stay home and get to know their neighbors. As a result, there is an even greater need than ever for welcoming our neighbors, to start the process of building personal relationships in neighborhoods. Unlike many communities, Southlake is fortunate to have a recreational facility. Our facility serves as a wonderful place to welcome neighbors. | |

Millions of Americans volunteer to help others through schools, faith-based organizations, non-profits, hospitals, etc. Three basic reasons why individuals serve – Service strengthens our individual character and gives purpose to our lives and service is important to our Country. The power of volunteer service to touch the hearts and lives of others should not be underestimated. Of the two main reasons Americans give for not volunteering are (1) no one has asked, and (2) they do not know where and how to begin. Well — we are asking and here’s how to begin... |
